Like is a very good example of an overused word. What is meant is not the word specifically, as in usage rather than how it is used. People nowadays use the word like to bridge gaps in knowledge to effectively express themselves. For example, if someone asks a person How are you feeling? A normal response would be I’m feeling good, maybe a little happy because of X or I’m feeling sad or even angry because of Y. But now in modern society, most average sentences hold the context as I feel like happy because, like I got a new job offer, or did you know like that a jaguar can crush a turtle shell. It’s used in context to the point where, in sentences, it is excessive usage that is not needed. But it’s a common habit amongst many. Not that like shouldn’t be used because it’s a common and very great word for comparisons. But it definitely has played a role in common everyday sentences and communication. Whether it’s for the better or for the worse.
